“There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that “my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge”.” —Isaac Asimov (via azspot)

Bush and Blair found guilty of war crimes for Iraq attack → salon.com

A tribunal in Malaysia, spearheaded by that nation’s former Prime Minister, yesterday found George Bush and Tony Blair guilty of “crimes against peace” and other war crimes for their 2003 aggressive attack on Iraq, as well as fabricating pretexts used to justify the attack. The seven-member Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Tribunal — which featured an American law professor as one of its chief prosecutors — has no formal enforcement power, but was modeled after a 1967 tribunal in Sweden and Denmark that found the U.S. guilty of a war of aggression in Vietnam, and, even more so, after the U.S.-led Nuremberg Tribunal held after World War II. Just as the U.S. steadfastly ignored the 1967 tribunal on Vietnam, Bush and Blair both ignored the summons sent to them and thus were tried in absentia.

This is what Columbia University police look like when arresting students:

This is what the police at Davis, a public university, looked like yesterday:

It is worth noting that in the Columbia photo, the one without helmets, guns, or chemical assault weapons, the student is being arrested for selling cocaine. In the Davis photo the students were defending public education.

Part of Me sidewalkman

This song is called Part of Me. It’s the first riff I ever wrote and eventually turned into a song. I wrote the lyrics long after I wrote the music. It’s also one of the first few times I thought to write positive lyrics instead of the usual ftw stuff I was doing back then. Enjoy.

I wouldn’t mind re-learning and playing this song again. You should put up tabs or a make a video so I can learn it ninja!

yeah Tabs! “layem down and slack’em yackem”, ‘you now what i mean” LOL

The Police State Makes Its Move: Retaining One's Humanity in the Face of Tyranny  → commondreams.org

eddyizm:

For days now, we have endured demonstrably false propaganda that the fallen soldiers of U.S. wars sacrificed their lives for “our freedoms.” Yet, as that noxious nonsense still lingers in the air, militarized police have invaded OWS sites in numerous cities, including Zuccotti Park in Lower Manhattan, and, in the boilerplate description of the witless courtesans of the corporate media, with the mission to “evict the occupiers”.

Hundreds of NYC riot police forcibly evicted Occupy Wall Street from Zuccotti Park early on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011.U.S soldiers died protecting what and who again? These actions should make this much clear: The U.S. military and the police exist to protect the 1%. At this point, the ideal of freedom will be carried by those willing to resist cops and soldiers. There have been many who have struggled and often died for freedom—but scant few were clad in uniforms issued by governments.

“Herman Cain is accused of doing more or less what Julian Assange is accused of. At least they’re very similar. But if I want to give $100 to Cain, no problemmo. But the banks won’t let me give money to Assange. Neither one of them has been convicted of anything. What’s wrong with this picture.” —Scripting News (via azspot)
